Reminiscing of Independence Day Parade 2007

Looking at Kara's blog today, I was reminded of last year's Independence Day Parade in Lewisburg, PA. We met up with Andy and Kara and had a great time. Unfortunately, I didn't take many pictures, so this is what I have....and hopefully she doesn't crucify me for this :)

Yes, well...I was going to post a video clip of Kyle directing one of the bands as they paraded through town, but...blogger's video upload is taking forever and I don't have the patience tonight (especially since it's getting late and time for me to get to bed, so...)

Out With the Old & In With the New

We've finally replaced our "fancy" copy-paper window shade in the living room, and got mini-blinds! I like the improvement!! Congratulations to ourselves...Ha!Ha!!!!!!

Cristo Rey (Christ the King)

On Saturday, we took a drive and visited the monument of Cristo Rey. It can be seen from our house, and is not really far, but it took us an hour to get there. (We had to go through a few small towns with many small speed bumps...then slowly drive up the winding, mountain road.)

Here are a few stats about Cristo Rey:

1] It is one of the most important religious monuments in all of Mexico
2] The statue allegedly marks the exact geographical center of Mexico
3] It weighs about 80 ton, stands about 65 1/2 ft. tall, and is made out of bronze
4] It is located on top of Cubilete Mountain at about 8500 ft. in elevation
5] It was erected in 1950/1951 - it replaced a smaller, original statue that was destroyed during the final stages of the Mexican revolution

We stepped into this sanctuary (pictured above) and saw this lady crawling on her knees towards the front. Very sad.

Every Jan. 6, thousands of people journey here to celebrate Epiphany (here in Mexico: the visit of the Magi to the infant Jesus). A lot of the pilgrims ride horses up to the shrine.

Family picture (below) with the statue in the background.

A scenic, mountain view taken from the perimeters of the monument.

This is a beautiful temple we passed on our way to Cristo Rey.

The Boys

Here are a few pictures I've taken of Kyle and Taylor recently.

Dressed up ~ and all ready for church.

Note: For our family and friends...if you ever see a picture on this blog that you would like to get printed, just send me an e-mail and I will send you the jpeg directly for better quality.

Taylor's First Tooth!

Our little boy (who turned 1 a month ago) finally got his first tooth!! It was definitely a long time coming!!

If you look real close in this picture (or click to enlarge), you'll see the little white tooth poking its head up through the bottom gum!

Long Time No Talk!

I know its been so long since we posted, you'all thought we were ate alive by scorpions...but in all reality, the power cord on our laptop stopped functioning, therefore we had to wait over a week to receive our replacement...meaning no e-mail, no blogging, or the such like!!

So now that we're back, we still don't have much to blog about ~ go figure!!! We're kind of in a scheduled rut, so to speak. Michael goes to school everyday, I do laundry everyday, plus cook, do dishes, watch the kids, try to do Rosetta Stone Spanish every afternoon...you get the idea...a never-ending list of things to do.

So for excitement recently, Michael and the boys made a "tent" underneath our table and read books together!

I've also tried my hand at making scrapbook cards. All the cards down here are in Spanish, and I don't have any on hand, so the need arose to make a few cards to send to family and friends. I don't really know too much about it, don't have much equipment, and don't claim to be an expert, but here are the end results.

Oh, let's not forget...you know the mattress story from when we first moved in here? That poor mattress is biting the dust!! When you sit or lay on it, it squishes down to about 2-3 inches and you can feel all the coils...they're poking you in the back!! Anyway, recent restless nights dictated that we buy a new one. We found a queen, pillow-top at Walmart for a decent price, so we're hoping this works better than the last one!! We're going to pick it up tomorrow!

Until the next time...

Strange Things Never Cease To Amaze Me...

Tonight after we got home from a trip into town, we brought the kids into the house, turned on the living room light, then went back out to the truck to get the groceries. When we came back in, we flipped on the kitchen lights, and BAM! all the lights dimmed to almost nothing. The candles I lit, were brighter than the lights! We looked outside, and sure enough, our neighbor's lights were on and very bright compared to ours! Now what do we do? We finally asked our neighbors if they had any ideas. After talking with our landlord, our neighbor pushed the button on the electric gate to our property, and BAM! the electric came back on!!! Whatever the problem was, we're glad to have electric again! I was starting to get concerned about the food items in the fridge...

Now hopefully tomorrow morning, when someone needs to leave and pushes the button for the electric gate, it doesn't happen all over again!

Like I said, strange things never cease to amaze me...I'm not an electrician, but why the electric gate and only our house would be connected together... STRANGE!!

Breaking In!

I haven't had much to blog about recently, and apparently Kyle figured this detail out. We have been potty training him this week, with apparent success (FINALLY!!), and so today, he told me he had to go potty and proceeded to go in the bathroom and shut the door...only it locked. While I spent a while trying to pick the lock, Kyle kept telling me he was "messing" in the bathroom! You know, that's never good news!! Once I finally broke in - using the credit card trick - Kyle had his potty tore apart with soap and water all over the floor and toilet paper in various places! Don't kids keep your life interesting?!?!?! Actually, it could have been a whole lot worse, I just needed something to blog about!! Ha! Ha!
